Our club is changing in 2010 !!!

(See below for the membership application and waiver forms.)

St. Albert BMX will not be having a race season this year.  Due to the time that it is going to take the City of St. Albert to construct our new facility, we decided that we didn’t want to hold the project up and would let them get to what they needed to do.

What we do have to offer you is a membership for only $85.00 for riders under 18 and $100 for riders 18 and older.  What this includes is the Canadian Cycling racing license that allows you to race at either Stony Plain or Edmonton at no additional charge.  This would mean you are still a member of St. Albert BMX and can utilize all Alberta tracks instead of only belonging to one.  This also means you would not be required to fulfill their membership requirements such as volunteer hours or fundraising fees.

If you are contemplating joining Edmonton BMX or Stony Plain BMX please be aware that they do not have the same fee structure we have.  You do not have the option of a reduced rate to race at their club only (our $110 membership).  Each club also would require you to complete volunteer hours, pay their volunteer and fundraising fees and take part in their fundraising efforts.  Each of those clubs has a major race this year, so you would also be required to volunteer at one of those events.  If you are going to go this route, please refer any of your questions you have about racing at their clubs to the appropriate club as I am not aware of their requirements or operations, we all have different ways that we run things.

St. Albert BMX is in need of your support this year.  We have a Casino in June on the 18th and 19th.  We need these funds to be able to operate the club when we re-open in 2011.  We have been working on this project with the City of St. Albert for 3 years to bring our members the best facility in Canada!

If you choose to take advantage of the $85 or $100 membership you must apply by May 31, 2010.

You can register in one of 2 ways.  I have attached the Canadian Cycling license application – please fill out the top portion only of the document that requires your information and have the rider sign the waiver form in the appropriate places – parent signature is not accepted in these areas.  A COPY OF BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR PASSPORT IS REQUIRED TO ACCOMPANY THIS APPLICATION TO PROVE CITIZENSHIP.

Registration will take place on Sunday, April 25th at St. Albert BMX – we should have both windows open to expedite this procedure.  A second registration date will take place on Sunday, May 2 at St. Albert BMX.  The times are 10am to 3pm.  Registration will be rain or shine (or snow).  Only riders who were a member of St. Albert BMX last year (or siblings of) or residence of St. Albert wishing a new membership may purchase this membership at this low fee.  This is not open to Edmonton BMX or Stony Plain BMX riders in our efforts to ensure they don’t loose any of their members due to a lower cost.

The kids are welcome to bring their bikes out on these dates and ride, and must be in full gear.  They cannot go out on the track until they have signed their waiver form and we have checked it – they will be required to wear the pink ribbon on their helmet once again!  We will not have our loaners available this year, so if your child wishes to continue racing you must purchase a bike.  The bikes and helmets will not be available to use on these registration days.  We also will not be running the gate on these dates, but will require a few adults out on the track to keep an eye on things.  We will try to have some free coffee going in the registration area to keep you toasty inside.

If you cannot attend either of these registration dates, please contact the following Executive members to arrange drop off of your application and copy of birth certificate or passport:

All memberships will require President’s signature or approval, so if you take it upon yourself to drop your application off at Alberta Bicycle, this may hold up your application process.

I have updated the calendar on our website to include as many dates as I am aware of.  Edmonton BMX will be holding a swap meet on April 24 – May 1st if it is rained out.  This is a good place to go if you have anything to sell or wish to purchase a used bike.  We will be there, so feel free to bring your applications as well if you wish to check it out.

See you at the races,

Marnie Vickery, Secretary/Treasurer, St. Albert BMX Assn.
